A Basking Ridge couple set out to transform their backyard into a vibrant and seasonal haven, tackling the challenges of shade and clay soil with varying moisture levels. Erik designed a lush and harmonious landscape, incorporating Annabelle Hydrangeas, flowering Itea, Clethra, evergreen Leucothoe, and perennial Ligularia to create a thriving understory.

To address a persistently wet area, he replaced a struggling patch of lawn with a striking massing of Winterberry Holly and Norway Spruces, adding structure and seasonal interest.

The finished garden delights with vibrant spring and summer blooms along the long, narrow beds, while the red berries of Winterberry Holly brighten the view during winter dormancy. Thrilled with the transformation, the clients now enjoy a backyard that is both captivating and perfectly suited to their landscape’s unique conditions.
